A Lincoln County woman, her horse and three dogs were rescued Sunday after her cries for help were heard by two hikers.
“She was up there overnight,” Tony Davis, president of White Mountain Search and Rescue, said Monday. “A couple of hikers heard her calls in the morning, but couldn’t locate where she was.”
Sound in the mountains often is distorted and can be deceptive, he said.
When the initial call came into his home at 3 a.m., Davis said he tried to contact several search team members without success. Several were out of town, but, as is the norm is such situations, search and rescue groups from other areas also mobilized and Brian Hamilton with Mesilla Valley was named incident commander, Davis said.
Chad Pierce, public information officer for the New Mexico State Police, said at 2:15 a.m., Sunday, an NMSP Officer was dispatched to assist Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office to locate a lost rider in the Argentine Canyon area.
