Two separate fires have broken out in Santa Fe County on Thursday. In an update sent around 9:20 p.m., the "McClure Fire" had burned 15 acres in the Santa Fe Municipal Watershed about 2 miles from Hyde Park. Federal and local crews are on scene. For three hours Thursday, aircraft dropped fire retardant and water on the fire. Those efforts stopped around 8 p.m. On Friday morning, hotshot crews will hike from Nichols Reservoir Friday morning and dig a line to halt the fire’s growth, the Forest Service says. A Type-III team will also move in Friday morning. The area had not been thinned or treated with prescribed burning, according to the U.S. Forest Service, making the fire’s growth potential high. Reports state the fire is moving at a moderate speed. The cause is unknown. Another fire, labeled the "Gold Mine Fire", has grown to 20 to 30 acres on private land in the Ortiz Mountains near Madrid. Crews from State Forestry and the Santa Fe County are responding. Smokejumpers, a bulldozer and three Type-VI engines are working to suppress the blaze. Firefighters made more headway in the Dog Head Fire benefitting from a slow-moving storm over the Manzano Mountains. Officials said Thursday night containment on the 18,000-acre fire increased to 83 percent. A Type-III incident team will take over on the fire’s response Saturday morning. In Corrales, firefighters contained a half-acre fire in the Bosque north of the Alameda bridge.
