For local first responders, Saturday afternoon was a time for deeply felt appreciation and gratitude.
The Portales Rotary Club hosted its first First Responders Appreciation Day at the Baptist Children’s Home Saturday afternoon. Members of the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Department, Portales Police Department and Milnesand Fire Department were among the first responders attending.
“We’re here simply to say thank you,” said Rotary Club member Noelle Bartl. “This is the time of year to give thanks (and do) anything we can do to give back.”
“We couldn’t have a community without them,” said Rotary Club member Wayne Baker. “Police and all the responders have a difficult job.”
