A fire destroyed a single-story house north of Aztec this afternoon.
The fire occurred on County Road 2396 in the Dutchman’s Hill subdivision and was reported at 3:13 p.m. to San Juan County dispatch.
San Juan County Fire Chief Craig Daugherty said the fire had burned through the roof by the time firefighters arrived, and the two occupants of the home were outside when personnel arrived.
No injuries were reported, and the couple is staying with family members, he said.
Volunteer firefighters from county fire stations in Cedar Hill, Center Point and Navajo Dam, as well as the Aztec Fire Department, responded to the fire, which was extinguished at approximately 4:30 p.m., Daugherty said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but the structure has been determined a total loss and is uninhabitable, he said.
