Firefighters extinguished a fire in an abandoned house in the Barelas neighborhood Thursday evening, according to a spokeswoman for the Albuquerque Fire Department.
The fire broke out around 5:15 p.m. at a house on the corner of 8th and Nuanes SW.
“Firefighters arrived quickly and stopped the fire before it spread to nearby homes,” said Melissa Romero, an AFD spokeswoman. “The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes.”
No injuries were reported but the house was a total loss, she said. AFD has closed 8th street between Marquez and Lewis while they remain on the scene.
