People who live in a section of the Four Corners now have better fire protection. On Tuesday, San Juan County Fire Department dedicated a new firehouse, and there is a feature that will get people help faster.
“We determined that this area was one of the faster-growing areas in the county. It was under-serviced,” said San Juan County Fire Chief Craig Daugherty.
More than 1,000 houses are within five miles of the new Centerpoint Fire Station 2. There are even more planned in a growing subdivision. That means residents need fire protection, justifying the new fire station. “A good location to help our mutual aid and help other districts and departments in close vicinity,” Daugherty said.
The new fire station is on N.M. 173, the road to Navajo Lake. There are four rooms in the fire station that will make response times even faster, and living quarters for volunteers.
