A group of local firefighters rushed to open the bay doors at fire station 1, ready to answer any questions and display their equipment. No, it wasn’t an inspection, rather one of many stops for a bus filled with elementary students picked to have a day of fun and presents.
Now in its third year, the annual Caring through Clothing event run by Irene Leaton, owner of the Old School New Styles Barber Shop, was held last month, helping over 20 kids from Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary.
The students selected to participate were treated to breakfast at the International House of Pancakes, a viewing of “Despicable Me 3”, and a $100 Target shopping spree.
The kids were also taken to Rio Rancho Fire Rescue Station 1, where several firefighters gave presentations on the different trucks and equipment they use in the field.
