Firefighter teams from New Mexico are en route to help battle one of the worst wildfires in California's history. A team of four, comprising firefighters with the Santa Fe National Forest Jemez District, the Jemez Pueblo, and the Gila National Forest, is heading to Santa Rosa, California, Thursday morning.
With New Mexico on a break from its own wildfire season, resources in the state can afford to send some help elsewhere in the U.S.
"This is kind of out-of-the-norm and they're strapped right now for resources and that's why they're reaching out to other regions to bring other folks in," Santa Fe National Forest firefighter Todd Decker said.
