Firefighters from Rio Rancho, Sandoval County, Corrales, and Los Alamos teamed up over the weekend to develop New Mexico Strike Team 1 for deployment to assist in fighting the wildland fires in California. The crews left early on Sunday morning and have arrived safely in the staging area of Chino, CA. They will receive their orders today and begin helping firefighters from across the west in battling the large fires affecting many parts of the state. The Strike Team is comprised of five brush trucks and 16 personnel, including a Strike Team Leader from RRFR, to assist in firefighting efforts. The Team will be deployed in California for up to 14 days. All Team members are certified wildland firefighters.
