Wildfire can happen any time of year, especially during the spring when the seasons are in transition.
Shawn Bennett, the meteorologist in charge at the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, said autumn is a transition season as well. That can mean fire danger.
"It's not uncommon in the fall, but it's more prevalent in the spring," he said. As the weather transitions into autumn, red flag warnings and high fire danger will threaten the state.
"If a fire is started somehow, it will rapidly spread in these conditions," Bennett said.
That means everyone should exercise extreme caution on high-risk days.
