A lightning-sparked fire is burning on land managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The Cerro Fire has burned 290 acres as of Thursday, Aug. 16. No structures are threatened. Firefighters finished work preparations along the Continental Divide Trail after fire behavior included flames reaching one to two feet high. Officials continue to plan for long-term operations. Smoke from the fire may be seen from State Highways 53 and 117 as well as Grants, San Rafael, El Morro and Ramah.
