An early morning apartment fire in southwest Albuquerque is being blamed on a floor furnace.
Firefighters said this fire could have likely been prevented.
The property owner was conducting some renovations and left the heater on. Albuquerque Fire Rescue spokesperson, Tom Ruiz, said if one has a floor furnace in their home, it’s important to get it serviced regularly.
"The main thing to do is to make sure it's regularly maintained at least once a year. Have somebody, a professional come and look at it,” Ruiz said. “Make sure it's operating correctly to prevent any accidents like this one last night."
Ruiz said its not just floor furnaces that can pose a fire danger.
