Neighbors say the stopped a brush fire from spreading in Belen.
Nathan Silva says around 3 p.m. Thursday he saw trees on fire on Jarales Road.
The fire quickly jumped onto his property, and that's when he and about seven of his neighbors stepped in, throwing dirt on the flames to keep it from reaching nearby alfalfa fields.
"We created a fire line, maintained that area. After that there was one fire truck on scene and they slowly started coming in after that," neighbor Nathan Silva said.
Firefighters have not said how big the fire ended up being or what may have started it.
