Suspicious roadside fires reported in the Talpa area late Wednesday night (June 13) drew Taos volunteer firefighters to combat the flames and Taos County Sheriff's deputies to seek a suspected arsonist. The first fire was reported around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Undersheriff Steve Miera, who reviewed call logs Thursday morning (June 14). By the end of the night, the number of fires would grow to seven, Miera said. At least one of the fires was reported on La Morada Road off of State Road 518, where emergency lights flashed late into the night Wednesday. While Miera is still reviewing the incident, chatter on emergency radio channels late last night indicated that law enforcement officers were seeking a suspect they believed to be traveling in a red van in the area of State Road 518.
