A very dry winter could bring one of the toughest fire seasons New Mexico has ever faced.
That outlook has one of the state's largest counties worried about how they'll take on fires with limited resources.
"We used to have a fire season, but now we have a year-round fire season where we get wildland fires all the time," said Sandoval County Fire Chief James Maxon.
"We even had brush fires and wildland fires on Christmas day this year," said Maxon.
With what's been one of the driest winters for the state, firefighters are talking about the high fire danger many are fearing.
"Everything is very dry out there," said Chief Maxon. "We fully expect to have a significant fire season."
