Concerns in Alamogordo were raised after a hydrant malfunctioned as firefighters were battling a house fire earlier this year. Now, as the fire department conducts their annual fire hydrant checks, they’re trying to ensure something like that doesn't happen again.
"The importance of knowing that the hydrants work is crucial to us -- that is our lifeline,” said Lt. John Stroope with the Alamogordo Fire Department.
Back in May, a fire hydrant failed at the scene of a house fire in Alamogordo. The cap was corroded shut.
A neighbor who recorded the ordeal says they firefighters tried the closest one for more than four minutes, even jumping up and down on it with wrench, but it wouldn't budge.
