First responders say it’s not a matter of if, but when.
That “when” came Monday night when Bernalillo County firefighters were called to a possible active shooter at the Ben E. Keith warehouse. “They immediately said, 'We need your help. We have people down,'” said Lt. Matt Propp.
Propp, along with five other members of his department, were some of the first firefighters to show up.
That night, they were members of the Rescue Task Force. Dressed in their combat gear including a helmet, bulletproof vest and only armed medical gear, they went into the warehouse, not knowing if the shooter was still inside.
