PHOTO: A large sinkhole swallowed two cars and forced the evacuation of a few homes in Las Cruces on Monday night.
According to the Las Cruces Fire Department, firefighters were called to the 1700 block of Regal Ridge Street for a report of a sinkhole. When crews arrived, they found a sinkhole 30 feet deep and 30 feet wide.
The sinkhole swallowed two cars that were parked in the driveway of a house.
As a precaution, three homes in the area of the sinkhole were evacuated, and the Red Cross is helping those impacted.
Local utility companies were called to evaluate any possible damage to infrastructure.
Regal Ridge Street will be closed until crews can find the cause of the sinkhole and determine whether or not the street is safe.
