The Reno Fire Department responded to a house fire in south Reno on the early morning of Sunday, December 9. The fire broke out in the garage of a home on Messina Court at around 2 a.m., according to fire crews. The homeowner tells News 4-Fox 11 that his family was woken by the smoke detectors and the fire alarm. He quickly discovered that his entire garage was engulfed in flames. He also says that mostly everything in the house was destroyed by the fire, smoke or both. The homeowner says his family is safe thanks to the smoke alarms and because they had an evacuation plan in place in case of an emergency.
