Storey County Fire Fighters Local 4427 held a fundraiser to help the family of a young boy hit by a car in February. The fundraiser was held July 14, 2018 at the Delta Saloon in Virginia City, with spaghetti feed, silent auction, face-painting, bounce house, band and tours of fire equipment.
The victim, the six-year-old son of Fire Captain Fritz Kingler, was treated at Renown Regional Medical Center for a traumatic brain injury and broken femur, and was flown to a hospital in Utah for therapy and evaluation, with much of that treatment not covered by insurance. He is recovering, having gone back to school with continued daily therapy, but still gets monthly treatments in Utah.
