An injured backcountry skier was rescued near the Mt. Rose summit on Saturday evening, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office reported.
Just before 5:30 p.m., the sheriff's office dispatched its RAVEN helicopter crew and search and rescue team to assist the North Lake Tahoe Fire Department in retrieving the a woman with a leg injury.
She had been skiing with two other people at Tamarack Peak and was stranded at an altitude above 9,200 feet, according to sheriff's office spokesman Bob Harmon. None of the skiers were from the immediate area.
"Because of the steepness of the terrain, it would have been dangerous to get her out on ground," Harmon said.
