So far in 2018, five people have died as a result of house or apartment fires in Las Vegas, according to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue’s Tim Szymanski. “Last year we had six. A couple years ago, we didn’t have any,” he said. “It’s just that sometimes we have good years, and sometimes we have bad years.” The most recent fire happened Saturday at an apartment complex on the 6400 block of E. Charleston Boulevard near Nellis Boulevard. The cause of the fire is still unknown, and it may be difficult for investigators to pin it down, according to Szymanski. “The destruction was pretty intense in that room, so anything that might have helped us indicate what the cause was, was destroyed,” he said. “With any fatal fire, we have three different agencies investigating. Arson investigators from our department, [LVMPD] homicide, CSI, and the coroner’s office. They were all out there, and we just couldn’t find anything that stuck out that could have caused the fire.”
