The male driver of a car that struck a Davidson Avenue home early Wednesday morning is dead, according to Buffalo police.
The crash occurred shortly before 6:30 a.m. Shortly before 7:30 a.m., the crumpled black vehicle could be seen at the front of the house at 267 Davidson, which is north of Route 33 and near Calvary Cemetery.
Firefighters put up braces to support the building. The city engineering department, which was on hand at the crash scene, reported that the front and side foundation wall had been damaged. Utilities have been shut off.
The house is no longer habitable because of foundation damage, said Fire Commissioner Garnell W. Whitfield Jr.
Two couples were inside the home at the time of the incident and were uninjured, Whitfield said.
The fire commissioner said it appears the vehicle “did go airborne at some point,” mostly missing a car parked in the driveway.
Ryan Thomas, who lives three doors down, said he was in his bathroom at the time of the accident and thought something hit his house.
“I just heard a big boom,” he said.
Thomas said the corner has been the scene of crashes before.
The Red Cross is assisting at least four people who lived in the home who were displaced due to the incident.
