Obituary: John E. Sarvent, Sr., Past Nyack Fire Chief

John E. Sarvent, Sr. a longtime Nyack resident, died suddenly on Saturday, he was 88 years old. John was born in Hartsdale, NY to Raymond and Mildred Sarvent. John served in the US Navy from 1944 until 1946. He was employed as a supervisor for Orange & Rockland Utilities in the Gas Dept. for 30 years. John was a member of the American Legion Post #310 of Nyack, the VFW Post #9215 of Upper Nyack, NY and the Naurashank Masonic Lodge #589 of Pearl River, NY. John joined Chelsea H&L Co. #1 of the Nyack Fire Dept. in 1959. He served as a lieutenant, captain, president and commissioner; in 1971 he was elected Battalion Chief, 1973 Deputy Chief and served as Chief of the Nyack Fire Dept. from 1975 to 1977. John is predeceased by his two sons Kenneth in 1980 and John, Jr. on September 21, 2015, a sister Millicent Christian and a brother Raymond Sarvent.
