Gasport Chemical Hose Company will be able to purchase 21 new air tanks thanks to $128,667 from the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters grant program.
U.S. Rep. Chris Collins, R-Clarence, announced the award last week along with a separate $51,285 grant for Richmond Fire Company near Honeoye Lake.
Gasport Chemical Hose Company Chief Christopher Wesolek thanked Collins for his "aggressive advocacy" on behalf of the fire department.
“Updated (self contained breathing apparatuses) are critically important to protecting our firefighters and making sure they are able to keep our community safe," Wesolek said in a statement.
