Police: Video shows Utica officer engage in physical contact with individual at fire scene

The Utica Police Department is investigating a physical altercation involving one of its officers and an individual at the scene of a fire. The incident became known due to a video that was shown to police. The video showed an officer engaging in physical contact with a subject which causes the subject to fall to the ground, according to Utica Police. The subject, who was the owner of the building that had been on fire, was removed from the secured area inside of the police tape at 333 South St. in Utica. Police said the officer was attempting to assist the Utica Fire Marshal and prevent the "highly emotional individual" from interfering with the Utica Fire Marshal's investigation and keep him away from a dangerous situation. Utica Police said it will conduct a full investigation of this incident.
