The younger brother of an FDNY firefighter who died on September 11 as he rushed to save others has a mission to keep his older brother’s legacy afloat. Gerard Chipura is now working with family and friends to remember his brother, John, by having his name on the side of a new Staten Island Ferry. “After he passed on 9/11 it became my mission to bring his story out and let people know what a great guy he was," Chipura said. More than 8,000 New Yorkers have agreed to sign petitions of support for Gerard’s mission.
