When Lisa Snyder is sworn in as a firefighter Wednesday morning, she will be starting a career her husband has enjoyed for more than three decades.
“My husband inspired me to be a firefighter,” Snyder said Tuesday. “He’s been with the FDNY for 32 years and he told me that it was the greatest job in the world.”
“I saw how happy he is and I love public service, so I know I’m going to love it just as much as he does,” she added.
Snyder, 38, taught second-graders at public schools in Brooklyn and Staten Island before joining the Bravest. She and Firefighter Joe Skonieczny married in 2005. They have two daughters — ages 7 and 9. When they were first dating, Skonieczny would tell her of the fires he responded to and the rescues he helped make, she said.
