A mother and her teenage son were found dead inside their Orleans County home Wednesday night. Deputies found 38-year-old Joan Gilman and 14-year-old Richard (RJ) Gilman Jr. inside the house on Center Road in Kendall around 7:30 p.m. Investigators found a running portable generator and several propane-powered appliances in the home. Investigators say power to the family’s home had been turned off a few days ago. The Gilmans were pronounced dead at the scene. RJ was a ninth-grader at Kendall Junior/Senior High School (JSHS). Superintendent Julie Christensen said he had an "infectious sense of humor and an endearing personality." The Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting autopsies to confirm the causes of death.
