he City of Oswego has a new contract with its fire department after more than two years without one.
A new contract was unanimously approved Monday evening. This agreement is considered an unconventional one. The city and the firefighters union were able to come to terms without going to court. The legislation will last through 2022.
"Once we got together to talk this out, we said 'look, let's move past the layoffs of 2016, let's build on the momentum we have and lets just talk this out. I can be reasonable if you can be reasonable' and and they were very reasonable, very fair and I think our proposals were as well and we were able to come to come to this pretty quickly," said Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow.
The Oswego Firefighters Local #126 Union President said his group is pleased with the agreement and is optimistic about the future of its relationship with the city.
