A city man suffered serious injuries in a fire Sunday morning on Van Vranken Avenue, fire officials said. A firefighter also suffered minor injuries in the early morning blaze that saw firefighters rescue the injured man and police officers help other tenants from the building. Firefighters were called to the apartment building at 2105 Van Vranken Ave. at about 3:50 a.m. They arrived to find fire in one apartment and the tenant inside. Firefighters pulled the tenant out. He was taken to Ellis Hospital in serious condition, Deputy Fire Chief Gary Coppola said. The firefighter injured suffered a burn, Coppola said. He was treated and released from the hospital. City officers arrived at the scene and could be seen helping some tenants out. City officer Alberto Beltran could be seen carrying a young girl from the building as one woman carried a baby.
