History was made Wednesday as the Village of Ilion introduced their first female firefighter. Mary view says she has always wanted to be a firefighter and that she has been enjoying her first week on the job! View was at the Village of Illion board meeting with her son and was welcomed by the mayor and the public. "I'm very excited," View said. "I hope it inspires some girl out there to maybe think of this as her career path and know that she can do it and live out her dreams." Fire Chief Robert Paddock says having a female fire fighter join their team has been long overdue. "Females in the fire service are not new," Chief Paddock said. "There are females that have retired from the fire service already. So I feel like we might've actually been a little bit behind, but it brings us up to speed with the industry and women have a very strong foothold in the fire service"
