One person died late Wednesday when a home on South Road caught fire, officials said.
Washington County Sheriff Jeff Murphy said an older man was killed, apparently when an oxygen tank in the home caught on fire. A woman who was staying in the home with him was taken to Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland, Vermont for burns and possible smoke inhalation.
Sheriff's Senior Investigator Kristen Hardy said she suffered burns to her arms and back.
Initial scanner reports listed one person as being trapped when the fire was reported at 8:03 p.m. at 448 South Road, south of the county Route 18 intersection.
Police said the man who died was found inside the burning building.
Washington County property tax records show the home was owned by Richard Murray.
