A Brooklyn man miraculously survived getting blown out of his bedroom during an explosive house fire Tuesday, his family told the Daily News. Craig Adkins, 50, was lagging behind his wife, daughter, mother-in-law and two grandchildren as smoke came up from the first floor of their burning home on Lexington Ave. by Lewis Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant just before 9 p.m. “The floor started smoking, and I grabbed the kids and ran out,” said Adkins' wife, Shawna Wigfall, 53. “I was telling him to come on, and he was grabbing his clothes, and the whole thing just exploded.” Adkins fell about 5 feet, but survived the landing, possibly because he was on the bed, Wigfall said. “So he ran out the basement,” she said.
