The Utica Fire Department just put three new apparatuses into operation: a new paramedic engine for Engine Company 5 in north Utica; a new 75-foot aerial ladder for Truck Company 3, which will be used in any station in the city as needed; and a new 100-foot tower ladder for Truck Company 2 in downtown Utica.
Each of the apparatuses was designed to increase firefighting capabilities, with Utica streets in mind.
“With the design of this tower ladder, it's much easier position, it’s got a lower center of gravity,” said Utica Fire Chief John Kelly. The aerial is actually a lower in the street and it can get under wires and tree branches, which has been a big concern of ours, because we are an older city and we do have challenging neighborhoods to respond to, very congested and tight.
