13 firefighters injured after fire breaks out at Chinese restaurant in Midtown Manhattan

A fast-moving fire injured 13 firefighters Tuesday after it consumed the first two floors of a six-story Midtown building, FDNY officials said. The four-alarm fire broke out in Szechuan Gourmet, a Chinese restaurant on the first floor of the building on W. 39th St. near Fifth Ave. at about 4:15 p.m., the FDNY said. More than 130 firefighters and emergency workers responded to the blaze, which tore through the duct work and walls of the building for almost four hours before it was extinguished around 7:50 p.m., authorities said. The 13 firefighters, including seven in serious but stable condition, were injured dousing the flames, the FDNY said.They were treated for bruising and heat exhaustion at New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell and NYU Langone Hospital, officials said.
