The possibility that residents may dial 911 and have a sex offender respond has officials seeking to terminate a firefighter.
Yonkers firefighter Gustavo Bravo, 32, pleaded guilty in October to a misdemeanor charge of sexual misconduct due to his actions with a woman at a 2016 Fourth of July party. In May, Bravo was sentenced to six years of probation and he was ordered to register as a sex offender.
Now some city leaders want Bravo off their payroll.
"We have no comment on personnel matters regarding a specific individual," Mayor Mike Spano wrote in an email. "But logically, the city cannot tolerate any firefighter who is a registered sex offender and therefore not allowed near schools, playgrounds and other places where young people congregate. How can you respond to an emergency at a school if you are not allowed anywhere near it?"
