A woman was found dead in a cabin on Carl Turner Road after fire tore through the home on Thursday morning, police said.
The woman’s name was not immediately released pending formal identification during an autopsy, but authorities said she was believed to be a woman in her 30s.
Police believe they know her identity and that she lived in the home, but an autopsy was to be conducted at Albany Medical Center to confirm who she was and try to determine the cause of her death. Next of kin had been notified, as the woman was believed to be a longtime resident of the Chester area whose family owned the home.
The fire occurred in a small cabin at 1 Carl Turner Road, near the Riverside Pines seasonal home development, and was reported just before 8:30 a.m.
