After more than 30 years of service, the chief of the City of Norwich Fire Department was preparing to celebrate the end of his career this Wednesday. Chief Tracy Chawgo was scheduled have an open house at the fire station Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., but a tragedy has canceled the party and left the Norwich community in mourning. According to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, Chawgo's son Bradley, 23, died Monday night in a motorcycle crash in the town of Cambria, which is in the Buffalo area. Bradley was a graduate of Norwich City School District in 2013. According to deputies, Bradley Chawgo was riding his motorcycle around 11 p.m. Monday when he was struck by a car. Deputies say Chawgo died along Saunders Settlement Road after an on-coming SUV driven by Ajjada Amos,19, of Niagara Falls crossed the center line and struck his motorcycle head on.
