"We're always on call 24/7 we're on a volunteer basis, you usually go when you can," said Karl Blomback, Hillcrest Fire Company Lieutenant. Karl Blomback is a Lieutenant with the Hillcrest Volunteer Fire Company. He tries to respond to at least two calls a week. "Sometimes we'll have 6 calls a day sometimes you don't have any for a couple days so we never really know when it's going to happen," said Blomback. When responding to a call firefighters have to act fast. They have to put on all of their gear in less than two minutes and it's heavy, it weighs about 60 to 70 pounds. "You go into a fire, you go into a burning building you can't see, you have no clue what's inside and you just have to be prepared for every situation that you get to," said George Slocum, Hillcrest Fire Company Safety Officer.
