Local firefighters are asking for donations from the community to help fire prevention awareness to children.
The Broome County Firefighters Association has used a trailer called the “Kid's Safety House” to educate children in the community for the last 20 years.
"It's hands on. They get to learn, they get to watch, they get to touch things, they get to see things operate, and it make a better impression," said Broome County Firefighters Association President Robert Brady.
A mock kitchen is on the inside of the trailer to teach kids about common fire hazards.
"It's very common to have fires in the kitchen, sometimes people put things on the stove or the oven and forget about them. Sometimes there is combustible too close to the stove or the open flame," said Brady.
The group says the initiative works and has even saved lives.
