From an electronic CPR device to a fire simulator to an energetic K-9 officer who knows commands in three languages, first responders showed how it’s done Saturday at Cornell Hook and Ladder in New Baltimore.
The firehouse held its first Health and Fire Safety Day, an opportunity for first responders and other community service organizations to bring their resources directly to the community.
“We have done community events before, but not like this — we have the state chiefs’ association, mental health, the fire department, sheriff’s office,” said event organizer EMS Lt. James June. “We are bringing together resources from all over the county and state.”
Greene County Legislator Pat Linger, himself a volunteer firefighter with the department for 22 years, said putting resources that are available to the community front and center serves an important purpose.
