A volunteer firefighter remains at Strong Memorial Hospital with serious injuries following a crash Monday night. State Police say 27-year-old Jared Thompson was traveling eastbound on Route 31 in Murray around 5:40 p.m., responding to a call. Thompson is a member of the Fancher Hulberton Murray Fire Company and had his blue emergency lights activated, according to New York State Police. While driving between Hindsburg and Fancher Roads, troopers said Thompson did not see a semi truck in front of him and ran into the back of the truck. Troopers say the truck was turning toward a grain silo at the time. Witnesses told troopers the volunteer firefighter's vehicle had passed some vehicles. Troopers said it is not yet clear what specifically led up to the collision with the truck. Thompson was flown by Mercy Flight helicopter to Strong Memorial Hospital with injuries described as serious.
