A home on Sunset Terrace, in the Town of Tonawanda, was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at the scene Thursday night.
One person died in the fire, and fire officials say a police officer and a firefighter both sustained minor injuries.
According to police, a family of five, including three young children, lived in the home. The identity of the person who died has not been released by officials, but News 4 confirmed he was an eight-year-old boy who attended Glendale Elementary School. "A heavy smoke pouring out of every aspect in the house," Brighton Volunteer Fire Chief Andrew Hallnan said. "Within about a minute of arrival of our first engine, the house basically lit up, fire throughout, 100% involved."
The Brighton Volunteer Fire Chief says a neighboring home did suffer a little bit of damage on its side, but besides that, firefighters were able to keep it from spreading to other neighboring homes.
