A fire in an East Fourth Street plaza was extinguished quickly but appeared to cause significant damage Thursday night.
The Dunkirk Fire Department rolled to the blaze at 65-75 E. Fourth St. at about 7:25 p.m. and focused on Stylz Unlimited, a barber shop and clothing consignment store.
Smoke billowed from the roof, the eaves and windows of the building, but no flames were visible.
At one point, firefighters appeared to use saws in order to vent the fire through the roof. They continually searched around the inside of Stylz Unlimited with flashlights, likely looking for hot spots, as more firefighters brought a hose inside.
Firefighters entered Jukez Barber Shop next door to search for fire, but apparently found nothing.
They did use fans to vent a small amount of smoke from that business and Butryn Inc., an accounting and income tax service, another door down.
