An elderly couple suffered critical injuries when their house on Elmwood Avenue exploded early Wednesday night. Village Police Chief Roland Nenni said a call came at 6:21 p.m. reporting a fire and explosion at 5 Elmwood Ave. on the north side of the village. “Our officer arrived in three minutes and the house was fully engulfed with two people outside the residence,” Nenni said. “It didn’t appear that they had been blown out but we are still trying to confirm how they were able to get outside.” Albion fire crews arrived and with help from neighboring departments were able to contain the fire to just 5 Elmwood, with no damage to neighboring houses. One person was taken by Central Orleans Volunteer Ambluance and the other by Mercy Flight helicopter to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where they were in critical condition.
