There were six suitors for the Shelby Fire Captain position, and they all finished within 13 percentage points of each other. “They all did really well and I’m really proud of them,” Shelby Fire Chief Mike Thompson said. But only one man could fill the vacant spot: Randy Washburn, who will be going into his 19th year with the department. For the past six years, he has been stationed as the fire chief for Franklin Township. “I’m very excited,” the newly appointed captain said. “With my other department, it is just another chance to get training. I take every opportunity I can to train.” With his new title as captain, Washburn said he is excited to be able to have his voice heard about the direction the Shelby station heads in.
