A total of 11 people were displaced because of the fire, according to Steve Meadows, Battalion Chief with the Miami Valley Fire District.
The fire started in an occupied apartment unit, Meadows said. Seven of the 10 units in the apartment complex were occupied.
Red Cross is assisting those who were displaced, Meadows said. Two cats also were rescued.

According to scanner traffic, firefighters believed the individual apartment where the fire broke out was vacant, but multiple occupants of surrounding apartments were evacuated and will be displaced.
