With money from a grant administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the city of Xenia will be acquiring firefighters, the first in nearly five years. The three-year grant provided by the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Act amounts to $451,858. The city must match the funds with $280,886 from its own coffers for a grand total of $732,744.
The grant will pay for three new firefighters over the next three years, covering 75 percent of the salary and benefits for the first two years and 35 percent in the final year, according to a release from the Xenia Fire Division.
