When the sign says, "Road Closed," it means "Road Closed." It's a simple message Sandusky County EMA/911 Director Lisa Kuelling stresses to motorists approaching roads engulfed by high water. But the temptation to drive through a flooded stretch of Sandusky County Road 164 proved too great for one motorist Wednesday morning. Gregory Schmidt, 61, of Oak Harbor ignored a pair of road closure signs and attempted to make it through a submerged section of CR 164 near the Ottawa County line. His car didn't make it, and firefighters from the Lindsey Fire Department rescued the man as he sat on the hood of his partially-submerged 1997 silver Buick LeSabre, surrounded by water three feet deep.
